Mission

The Association’s purpose, within the national territorial scope, is to promote, support and encourage initiatives in the fields of Science, Technology and Culture, keeping alive the memory of the Italian physicist Prof. Francesco Paolo Ricci and continuing his work on behalf of the scientific community interested in neutron scattering and applications, with particular attention to the training of young researchers.

The SIF-SoNS “Neutrons Matter” for students and early-career researchers

The Italian Physical Society (SIF) and the Association School of Neutron Scattering Francesco Paolo Ricci (SoNS), in order to strengthen their collaboration, yearly announce a joint prize of Euro 1.000,00 (one thousand) to be awarded to a young graduate in Physics, who has obtained significant results in the neutron sciences and their applications.

A Strategic Review and Future Vision for Neutron Science in Italy Report of the Advisory Panel – Second revised edition commissioned in 2019 by Sociteà Italiana di Fisica and SoNS.

Professor Francesco Paolo Ricci has promoted with outstanding efforts the development of neutron research in Italy also actively contributing to the establishment of international agreements between the Italian Research Council (CNR) and the European International Neutron Facilities, which have allowed the national community of researchers involved in neutron spectroscopy to flourish both numerically and scientifically over the years. The relevance of his contribution to neutron spectroscopy has also been confirmed by a number of International appointments

In memory of Antonio Zichichi

Antonino Zichichi, world-renowned physicist, passed away today at the age of 96. Originally from Trapani, his name is linked to historic discoveries—such as the antideuteron and the production of pairs of heavy mesons with positive and negative strangeness—as well as important inventions like  NINO and superNINO, electronic devices for measuring the flight times of subnuclear […]
